The Lion King: Six New Adventures is a third-party book series cetered around Kopa, Simba's son. The series includes six early-reader novels that tell the story of the Pridelands before the movies as well as in Kopa's generation. It also introduces some words in Swahili as a kind of vocabulary words, always in italics.
1:Tale of Two Brothers
The story begins introducing life continuing for Kopa just as it was for Simba as a cub. After playing with his friend Pimbi, Kopa remembers his father promised to show him the summit, just as Mufasa had shown Simba in The Lion King's beginning. Simba cannot keep his promise as there is a crisis at the waterhole. Rafiki takes Kopa's side, explaining the importance of keeping promises with a story from Scar and Mufasa's younger days, when Rafiki first met them.
Rafiki begins his story describing finding the Pridelands during a drought. He first met Zuzu, followed by the Hyena trio attempting to eat him after Zuzu left. Ahadi, followed by his sons Taka and Mufasa, scared them off. Ahadi invites him to talk with him, which they do long into the night.
Rafiki was woken by a spitting cobra and shocked young Mufasa by convincing it to leave, a trick he learned from the Grass Walls. Rafiki does not tell Mufasa that he suspects Taka put it there.
After eating his Breakfast, Rafiki realizes that the Hyena Trio are plottting Ahadi and Mufasa's deaths. When he goes to tell Ahadi, he finds the animals in a great meeting. Taka is complaining that Ahadi has broken his promise to take him hunting and asks Mufasa to come with him alone.
Rafiki follows Taka, and continues to follow him when he leaves Mufasa alone. He then finds Taka talking to the Hyenas. They change his original planned revenge of surpassing Mufasa's catch to that of making Mufasa look foolish.
In his haste to catch up with Taka, Rafiki falls out of a tree and falls unconcious. Zuzu wakes him up and Rafiki sends her to find Ahadi and tell him to search for his sons.
Rafiki finds Mufasa trying to talk to Boma, a rude waterbuffalo. Mufasa claims that it was Taka's idea to get Boma to share the water. Just then, Taka roars that Boma must share or fight Mufasa, according to Ahadi. Boma chases Mufasa, making both Mufasa and Rafiki run for their lives.
Mufasa tricks Boma into a ravine, and Boma shouts that he'll get Mufasa and "the others" will get Taka. Mufasa and Rafiki arrive to find Taka in the midst of attacking buffalo, but Ahadi, leading a herd of elephants, scare them away.
Taka ends up with just a scar on his face, and Ahadi urges him to use it as a reminder to be less reckless. Taka tells them that from then on, he wants to be called Scar, and that he "won't forget this day". In desire to stop any other crises, Ahadi appoints Zuzu and her family as royal stewards and appoints Rafiki as his teacher.
After Rafiki ends his story and he is complimented on it and thanked for it, Simba takes Nala and Kopa to the summit.
2:Nala's Dare
The story begins with Kopa playing with his two friends, Jambo and Kwaheri. Zazu interrupts their game and warns Kopa to stay away from the gorge, which is full of fast-moving water from recent rain. After Zazu leaves, the game of the three frinds brings them close to the gorge. Jambo and Kwaheri swing across it easily and dare Kopa to do the same.
Kopa is too afraid to complete the dare and climbs into a den in sorrow. He leaves when he hears Rafiki and confides how upset he is about his fear to him. Rafiki, in responce, tells him to ask Nala the story of Ni. Simba, who has not heard this story since it took place while he was in the jungle, listens as well.
Nala's story begins with her asking Sarafina if she could play with her two friends, Kula and Chumvi. Sarafina warns her not to leave Pride Rock. When Nala finds her friends, she gets dared into talking to a foreign lion. She is going to answer the dare when the three friends hear the emergency roar, calling the pride to Pride Rock.
After Chumvi tells Nala she's lucky for getting out of the dare (on account of not being allowed to speak to the strange lion) he leaves to go home. Nala tells Kula she's going to talk to him anyway, and not back down.
In the morning, Kula asks Nala not to go again, but she doesn't listen. While looking for the stranger, Nala finds herself being chased. As she runs away, the lion appears out of nowhere and lunges at the hyena chasing Nala. He urges her to run and they climb a tree together. He then reprimands her for following a foolish dare.
The lion introduces himself as Ni, a lion who had been exiled for his age. Nala brings Ni to Pride Rock to introduce him to her family. For the split second Ni and Nala are seperated, Nala gets surrounded by hungry hyenas. Ni and Sarafina spring to the rescue at the same time. Sarafina also invites Ni to meet the pride.
Chumvi apologizes for his dare. Nala invites Ni to the summit and describes how the Pridelands once were. They talk about bravery and Ni gives her advice that it is assumed Rafiki gave him.
Kopa asks if Ni had ever come again, which he hadn't, and if he ever will, which his parents don't know. At Zazu's arrival, he goes to find his monkey friends. Jambo and Kwerhi again dare him with tricks, but Kopa quote Ni and leaves them confused.
