The Lion King

Sarafina is the mother of Nala, and plays a very minor role in The Lion King. She only has one line of dialogue: "Hmm... what do you think, Sarabi?" She appears to be good friends with Simba's mother Sarabi.

She is seen cleaning Nala when Simba asks Sarabi if he can go to the "waterhole". The next time we see Sarafina is when she and Nala are mourning the death of Mufasa and Simba. Here, her toes are coloured incorrectly. She is also seen fighting for Simba in the final battle for Pride Rock.

The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

It is not confirmed whether Sarafina appeared in Simba's Pride or not. She is rumoured to be at Kiara's first hunt, saying the line "My, how you've grown!" This lioness does not resemble Sarafina, but is voiced by Zoe Leader, who provided the voice for Sarafina in the original film.

The Lion King: Six New Adventures

The Lion King: Six New Adventures (or TLK6NA) is a set of six books centered around Simba and Nala's son Kopa. Sarafina appears in Nala's Dare, in which she searches for Nala and her friends after a rogue lion was spotted near to where the cubs were playing. She also saves Nala from a pack of hyenas, along with the help of Ni, after Kula told her that Nala was going to attempt to talk to a rogue lion. She scolds Nala, but takes Ni back to Pride Rock in thanks for saving her daughter's life.

Sarafina's Toes

Sarafina's toes, although the same color as the rest of her body for much of The Lion King. are often coloured incorrectly in many books and comics, and even one scene in the movie. While Sarafina and Nala are mourning for the death of Mufasa and Simba, there is a shot of Sarafina lowering her head with her toes colored to match her muzzle and chest. However, this is clearly a mistake, as her toes are coloured correctly in the next shot of Nala weeping in her paws.

Sarafina's Mate

It is never mentioned in the film who Nala's father is, and so the same applies to Sarafina's mate. In The Lion King tenth anniversary reunion, Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff admitted that they hoped that "No one would notice". Common beliefs are that it is Scar, Mufasa, or simply a rogue male.

Mheetu

Sarafina had a younger cub, a male called Mheetu. Although he was dropped, Mheetu has been mentioned in The Art of The Lion King, although referred to as "Mee-Too". He was designed by Thom Enriquez, and was designed to be Nala's "tag-along" little brother. An original device for Mheetu was Scar luring him into a wildebeest stampede so teenage Simba had to go and save him.
