Yes, I did take a few liberties in changing the cubs' designs. I gave Chumvi dark ear rims so he'd blend with the other male cubs. (In the "Nala's Dare" picture without rims, the cubs are a bit older than here.) I also decided to make Tama have light toes because I like to see the dark toes as a rarer trait. Speaking of Tama, why don't more people draw her? I think she's really cute, yet she's always getting neglected... |

Kovu and Vitani are mourning their mother's death. Little do they know that Zira survived the flood... I'm really proud of this picture! I colored the lines and the background looks halfway decent. Plus I think I captured the mood/setting well. EDIT: I may remove the picture of Nuka with these two as cubs from the current relationship contest and replace it with this one, since I think it came out better. It shows both how close Vitani and Kovu are to each other and to their mother. |

03:32 Sun 5/4/2008 Fans of This Picture: 4 Adolescent Jothra, version 2.0!A few months ago it hit me: Mufasa, Scar, Simba, and even Nuka all have manes that trail down their chests, but Kovu does not. That's because he's in his late teens. So I decided to try the short-mane look with Jothra, and I personally like it waaaay better than my other version of him. Isn't he cute now? The world was beautiful..." According to my TLK III, all three of Zira's children had the same father, Nyonda. Zira and Nyonda loved each other very much, but they broke up after a huge argument when Nuka was a cub and Zira was pregnant with Vitani and Kovu. Zira went crazy over Scar after that, but Nyonda missed Zira with all his heart, hoping to reunite with her someday. Done with colored pencils. Enjoy. |

Seriously, I need to draw more canon.Also did this for the "Vitani as a cub" contest over on The Lion King Source. I did a lot of screenshot studying to try to get her face to look at least CLOSE to how she actually looks. It's harder than you think. And don't ask me what the Chinese is doing there! I just felt like incorporating some calligraphy into a picture. It's supposed to say, "lioness cub." I know, so original. Probably got it wrong anyway. |

Award yourself a cookie.My local newspaper is running a comics contest, open to all ages. People make a comic strip and send it in. A different strip is chosen each week and gets printed at the top of the comics page. Naturally I decided to enter: what better way to show off my lions? ^^ However, I tried specifically NOT to make it look like a dead ringer for The Lion King. It would be very unbecoming of a newspaper to endorse a movie franchise. Hence you should notice a few minor changes to the way I usually draw and color lion characters, if you look carefully. When they broke up, Zira was pregnant with Vitani and Kovu and took the cub Nuka with her. Upon her arrival at the Pridelands, she fell madly in love with Scar. When Kovu was born with green eyes, it seemed all the more miraculous to the extent that King Scar himself noticed and took Kovu as his heir, considering making Zira his queen, though Simba came back before he could. But anyway, while Zira was obsessing over Scar in SP, Nyonda was desperately longing for his family. I worked hard on this guy's design. Enjoy. |

I decided to just ditch the scene and focus on Nyonda's face, allowing me to go into more detail with the shadows and fur. I rather like the result! I think this portrays his character really well. |
