| Prismacolor color pencils are great, I have a set and they're one of the best kinds out there - kind of expensive. I also have some crayola ones - you can make amazing art out of crayola, it just takes longer and alot more patience ;) It takes me longer, but I can still color however I want with crayola. But if you're looking for an upgrade, look into Prismacolors :) If you have an Office Max nearby, they always have the best prices compared to most art stores (unless you find an art store with a sale! :D) |

| As a matter of fact, Crayola are the best 'cheap' coloured pencils around. I would recommend getting the set of 50 or 75 before setting out on others. BUT, I can give you some other tips :3 Roseart are the lowest quality pencils and the cheapest, the break easily. [They run from 1-7$] Prang are good for lightly colouring things, but break easily under pressure so it's hard to detail with them. [They run about 3$ to 10] Crayola are the best for low budgets for they have good wood and soft lead. Even though you don't care for them, I recommend them in conjunction with prisma colours, and I'll tell you why in a minute. [Crayola's run from 1-7.50$, and for 7.50 you can get a box of 50, which is really great.] From here it starts to get more expensive. Rembrant coloured pencils are very good, but their prices are way out there. Although I don't exactly recommend their regular coloured pencils, BUT if you're interested, they are one of the best in Water colour pencils. [The regular pencils start at 8$ and rise from there] Now Prisma Colors. These come in all shapes and sizes. These are the best for shading and blending. [[They even sell colourless blenders!]] Most craft stores no longer carry a 12 pencil set of Prismas, and only the 24, which starts at 25$-30$ depending on the store. But in most craft stores [Like Micheals if you have one] carry single pencils. I would buy all of the primaries with a nice green, cream/sand, black and white. [[For red get Crimson or Alizurin Crimson]] That way you can use them OVER crayolas and it'll make your colors much brighter. Now there's a second type of Prisma colors that you can get for detailing. They can be sharpened to fine points and don't break under alot of pressure. These are called Prisma Verithin. These are alot cheaper and they're easy to use. Also since Prismas aren't pre-sharpened the boxes of pencils that are 24+ pencils come with a sharpener [lol bonus!] which you can actally buy new blades for it when it gets dull! Prisma prices go from: [Sets]--->[Price] 12--->15$ 24--->25-30$ 48--->40$ [Usually] 140--->150$ Verithins 12---> 5-15$ [If you have a Staples you cna get them for 5$!] 24--->15-20$ 36--->25$ Individual Pencils gor from 1.50$ to 2.00$ And color blenders are a 2 set for 5$ Hope it helps :D |
