TLK - Chaka
Chaka is my concept of Kiara's younger brother. His design is still being worked out. Aiming for a kind of cross between Mufasa and Scar anatomy and a reddish Nala colouring.
Chaka was born 10 minutes after Kiara. The presentation ceremony had been done in that time, so he was never officially presented to the animals of the pridelands.
As they grew Kiara and Chaka had many adventures, both together and separate. Chaka adored his "older" sister and she was rather fond of him. Kiara was bright and inquisitive and Chaka was happy and willing to follow her lead.
Everything was content, because with Scar's death the pridelands were safe from hyena's and Simba did not need to worry about them wandering unprotected in the pridelands.
One day while Kiara and Chaka where playing, Zira came upon them. Zira had never been the same since Scar's death, neglecting her own cubs [the near-grown Nuka and the not-yet born Kovu].
When Zira came upon the unwatched cubs she was seized with an insane rage. Kiara was talking about how one day she would be queen and Chaka was pronouncing how he will be King of the pride nearby.
Drawing herself out of the grass Zira wandered over to the cubs who greeted her happily. She killed Chaka in one swift bite to the back of the neck, before flinging his body away from her.
Kiara's mind shattered at the death of her brother and all reason left her as she tried to flee from the enraged Zira. In her attempt at flight she was sent flying down the rocks by a particularly rough blow where she landed roughly and lay twitching.
Zira assumed she died from such a harsh blow and wanders on her happy way.
When Simba is informed of his son's death and his daughter's comatose state, he is enraged and banishes Zira and her followers from the pridelands.
When Kiara awakes from her traumatising experience, she has reverted to a foggy, near-cub like state. Her mind had been damaged by witnessing the death of her brother and the following attack and she does not recall ever having a brother.
She must learn to walk and talk again, and her father is obsessive about her protection, encouraging her dependency.
Mention of Chaka is forbidden as the mere hint that she ever had a real, live brother sends Kiara into a panicking, irrational frenzy of fear. Any memories she has of Chaka and her previous "life" is considered a dream and not real by her, and she desperately avoids any hint that life was ever different.
