kourukon

She's only been here a few short months; but in that time, kourukon, this months' Featured Artist, has attracted a huge number of fans through her crisp and energetic style that many find indistinguishable from the work of Disney's own professionals.

In the Artist's Own Words:
“  Now kick me and call me a warthog.

How did i deserve this? It's not that I'm not happy... just greatly surprised.

I've been only a few months around, and suddenly this.

Now that I think about it, I guess it's because of my TLK-ish drawing style. I loved the movie then, and I love it now. Just as I do drawing. You get the idea, right? I'm just sorry there isn't so much time for me to draw, you know - all this "too old for this kiddie stuff" and "try concentrating on school". Are you saying that I should joined sooner? Not a good idea, a year ago I wouldn't be able to do anything I can do now. I still practise and improve (at least I think so ;) come back to see me in a ten years.

So, time for a BIG BIG thank you's.

Thanks, Brian - for everything (I bet you would rather take a permanent vacation and never see TLKFAA again, than hearing the same praise every month ;) just kidding. There's no place with such a friendly atmosphere like Archives. My bows.

Thanks, all my friends and those who wrote anything nice to me or supported me in anyway. Another phrase, I know. But this time I mean it, you all make me look silly, because I'm smiling at the computer monitor every day. Thanks for that. :)

Well, I had my 15 minutes of fame.I'll be going back to my stereotype now.

*goes huggles the warthogs*

Five months isn't a very long time, but it's been enough for kourukon to firmly establish herself here at the Archive with a collection of art that ranges from original characters and art trades to lavish canon scenes from the movies. Her very first pictures were simple sketches, but the skill in them was quite apparent: she was on her way to big things.

Indeed, today she's done nearly 150 pictures, mostly involving computer coloring and rich backdrops that effortlessly set the tone for her character pictures, as well as fully detailed scenes for her canon art involving characters such as Mufasa's father, Vitani, Simba, and the now-forgotten Kopa from the original TLK storybooks. Finished pictures are the pride and joy of kourukon's gallery, of course, but she also posts lots of sketches and developmental versions of her finished pieces, lending great interest to them for people who love to see the steps that take a quickly captured idea to a fully developed piece of artwork.

kourukon's artistic technique also varies greatly from picture to picture; intermingled with her computer-colored work that encompasses the best visual tricks of Disney art (such as outlines colored to match the fill colors), she's got flat-colored sketch pieces and comic work that gives us all great insight into her creative process, not to mention often showing more raw energy and spirit than comes through in a final, fully rendered picture.

kourukon has been compared favorably by her fans to the professional artists at Disney, and with good reason: she's off to a great start, and all indications are that she has a bright career ahead of her. Congratulations!
