Nuka poised on the tip of Pride Rock. The young heir was thoughtfully contemplating the birth of his brother - or sister, and wondering how this would affect his position as future King.
It would, as he later found out, form the basis of his entire breakdown.
But at the moment, the night was peaceful, the stars were watching him, and all there was in his way was his father, his brilliant, powerful and brave father. Nuka was happy to wait, he had all the time in the world and the innocence in which he patienty surveyed his future was evident.

Vitani entered the Pridelands from the northern border, sensing the other being's presence. Her long time away from her homeland caused her to miss Kiara, her former lover. "I wonder if Simba's still King..." murmered Vitani, taking in the new vitality of the land that suggested he was not.
"So..." purred a voice, THE voice. "You presume to enter my lands?"
Vitani gasped. "K...Kiara? Princess?!" The usually confident outlander was taken aback by the Princess.
"Oh, no, Tani," she smiled. "You're speaking to the Queen of the Pridelands, here. The Queen of the Pridelands that has waited for her beloved to return..."

More KiaraVitani art :P Normally I like Kiara to be the shy one...but I gave her a different role today :)

Wow. Long time no see!

Here is a picture of Chai, my version of Simba and Nala's son :) He is older than Kiara (the first lion cub we see at the end of TLK, not SP) and best friends with Vitani :)
As you can see, he takes after his daddy, mostly, in his younger years, but as he grows more, he taken on a Mufasa-like build. His intelligence matches that of his great-uncle, but with none of his malice.
Say hello to Chai!

A Massive Announcement!!!

I am moving in today! today is the last day I'll be able to get onto the internet regularly. My workplace has internet access, so I will still continue uploading, but we're in holidays now, so there'll be nothing until the 17th July, and then the uploads will only be once a week. Until I get access at my own place, this'll be the only time I can update this account!

Sorry, Firelemming....but I don't think I'll be able to get yours any faster :(

Thank you everyone for such an amazing experience, and I'll see you all in two weeks and once a week after that :)

The new King grasped the cub by his back, causing the lionesses to gasp in shock.
There was no sound from the stricken Simba, who carried Kovu to the Ledge. No sound was made in response by the horrified lionesses. The Ledge was where traditionally, the new Kings disposed of the old's cubs - and all were sure that Simba would never have follwed in his Uncle's place.
Lightning flashed behind the King as he growled through young Kovu's fur, his eyes blinded by his tears.
"It was because of this cub that Kopa died! It's YOUR fault he's dead!" he roared, his teeth closing on the cub's back.
Zira ran forward.
"It wasn't him!" she screamed, her teeth bristling.
"It was me!
...It was me."

The lie was to protect her son...

I wanted to make a peaceful picture.... :)

"The Queen lifted her head from the lush warmth of her mate's mane. Dusk had quickly fallen, and most of the Pride was back inside the chambers. Darien and Kota, however, as father and son, King and Prince, were still fast asleep, Darien with a smile curled around his mouth.
Vitani rested her head upon her son's back and smiled. It would be soon time to enter the chambers themselves, but for now the quiet peace of the brimming Pridelands was lullaby enough for her family."

A colour chart for Darien :)

I actually drew his ears much too high set this time, they should be droopy, not sitting up like this.

And the silly boy has his mother's freckles ;) Although I guess he doesn't look MUCH like Vitani. I'm still thinking makling his eyes red, like Simba's...they'll fit in with my story better. But I like it like this, I think. Blue suits him so :)

I really like the "in-between" stuff, things that don't happen in the films but very easily could have.

A present for Kourukon! *pokes* One of my bestest best friends here :)
I was randomly browsing her website full of the most AMAZING sketches, and this one in particular caught my eye of her characters Ciri (the bronze lioness) and Mo (the tan lion). They're sweet little characters, and I like them :P
And no, I did't ask her if I could colour the sketch...I didn't think she'd mind :P

I've always wanted to make something especially for Kimmeh (or Galactacian, as we all know her) but I don't recall any original characters she has. So I thought I'd draw a 'behind-the-scenes" that she seems to love. Hope you like this, Kim, cos I freakin' love it :D It's been so long since I drew something that I love.

Something for Brian! In order to keep this a secret from him, I had to advertise this on Lilymud and not here :P Six of us (sadly, I wish there were more that could come up with a picture in the end) all drew a picture for Brian as a huge thank you for running TLKFAA. Without this place, we woldn't have the community that we love, the linkeminded spirit that connects us all and a place to freely post our own pictures.
Thank you so much for this site, Brian, and we assure you, it's much, muh more than an artgrounds, it's a place where we can all be friends and enjoy talking and making new friends.

Vitani smiled at her son before gazing her eyes heavenward.
"My father told me, my son, that up in the sky is where all of us go when we die. He said that the brightest and best of those stars would be the former Kings of the Pridelands."
Darien let his lower jaw drop as he surveyed the skies with the blue orbs of his parents. So many! So many Kings up there!
"Those stars will guide you during your reign, Darien. You must learn to trust them and learn from them."

Due the the recent Vitani-ness of FireLemming and Galactacian(Kimmeh!!) I had to join in, although alas, my Vitani depictions are nothing compared to the raw beauty of theirs! Go and check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Scar's Nephew...

Well, you haven't seen this chap for a while! Kota is my favourite character in my story...he's just...everything that Simba wasn't in Simba's Pride. He's Mufasa's son, and if you want to know more, then read my story :P Located in my Artists' Coments :) (The bit where Kota comes in isn't actually up yet, but don't panic. It soon will be :D)

FireLemming inspired me to recap on this drawing I did months ago :)

"Mufasa rested a paw on the silent rock, grimacing amongst his Kingdom. Pride Rock loomed in th background, shadowing him in his thoughts. Sarabi's second cub, a daughter, had died a moon ago, today.

Mufasa couldn't fathom why the cubs kept dying. No reason was ever found - Rafiki just shook his head solemnly when he was asked.
'There will be no more,' thought Mufasa. 'Scar will inherit the throne. His children shall rule the Pridelands.'

The young King shook his head sadly. Surely the Great Kings meant more for him than this?"

Quite a few years before Simba's birth. I beleive that Simba was not Muffy and Saffy's first child...

A very, very, very overdue trade with Mirri :(

I had asked for a trade juuust before everything happened with my health, and ellie, so I'm afraid it has taken me a little while to finish it.

But here is Shade for you :) I LOVE characters with long leg markings, and this character has such a pretty design! I really enjoyed drawing him, and he seemed an interesting character :)

Doesn't everyone love this scene?
Poor Mufasa...such a wise, gentle King.

"Mufasa took Simba to the tip of Pride Rock to recap on yesterday's lessons.
"Was your Dad a good King, dad?" asked young Simba.
Mufasa smiled into his mane.
"Actually, Simba, my father would have made an excellent King. But it was your mother, in fact, who is the daughter of the King. My father was just a wandering rogue, with your Aunt Sarafina and myself."
Mufasa smiled at his bewildered son.
"So, as you see, Simba, all the training in the world doesn't mean a thing. You are what you are inside, no matter who your parents are, or where you come from."

Simba couldn't quite fathom how that seemed to work..."

Sarabi strode carelessly through the fire and ash, hearing all sounds, feeling all pricks of fire and coal.
Her son, her _son_ was out there, but it was not who was burning in her mind.
Her brother.
Scar. Taka. Brother. Friend. Murderer.
The old queen's mind was reeling, her thoughts scrambled but somehow perfectly clear. Her brother, her friend, her littermate, he whom she had suckled by, been raised beside, shared stories of the Great Kings had murdered her only son and husband. He had survived.
Sarabi saw a movement out of the corner of her eye.
Scar. Brother. Murderer.
Sarabi's anger was greater than her love, and she struck her younger brother fully over his already prominent scar.
Not a word was spoken, save Scar's scream.

"We'll give you some time."

It was one of the hardest things to do, to take my dear, dear Ellie into the Vets to have her be put down. I know it was for the best, but it was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do.
Ellie, if you can hear me, which I know you can, I love you so much and miss you every day. Life is empty and alone without you, and I will wait for you until the day comes when we can be together again.

This is for the last goodbye, my darling.

"Simba...you're alive? But how can that be?"
"It doesn't matter...I'm home"

...

Sarabi's first reaction was one of joy and amazement, but as the days slowly passed and Simba faulted time and time again as King, Sarabi's mindset began to turn again.
"Why didn't you come back?" she asked softly.
Simba squeezed his eyes shut and rested his head on her shoulder. There was no trace of blame in his mother's gentle voice, but he felt it.
To Sarabi, it was as though Simba the cub had left and another lion returned to take his place. How could she not blame the son for not being the father?

I'm slowly coming around to drawing again, and drawing some reeeeeally nice things in my sketchbook. I've opened commishies again in order to try and focus on other peoples characters, hopefully that'll perk me up a bit.

Now.

I've never drawn anything for Narf...and she's drawn so very many things for me, I am such a bad, bad friend. It's a sin, because she's one of my very best friends here. I've always wanted to draw Kijani as a surprise, so I've waited for her to plode a piccu of him and/or his brother so I could steal his colours. And she did!
So here's the mischevious 'Jani...methinks he would get along well with Morph's Kayode and my Darien :)

I've never agreed that colours make your character. I hear of 'character theft' and maintain I still do not believe in it. Someone may steal your character's design, but the designs don't HAVE to be all your character entails. To prove this, I've written up two very detailed character sheets, explaining how I draw Kahllynn and what makes him himself. He's not just a black and white lion, he's a mixture of styles and expressions that makes him himself. This is the first of two :) I think I'll do this for all of my characters.
