Rafiki watched Scar's face closely as he saw his cubs for the first time. His expression did not change as he gave them a scathing inspection from where he stood. Somewhat disgusted by his new 'king's' neutral reaction to his first children in years, he turned to inspect them himself.
The male was the kind of cub a lion needed to be made of. Thick, lithe, and with a glow of hope in his kindly brown eyes. He looked more like Ahadi than his father ever had.
The female had all of her mother's good looks. Rafiki chuckled when he saw the rebellion plain as the morning sun on her.
"That one will be trouble," Scar said, as if reading Rafiki's thoughts. "You. Boy. You will be my heir. Sarabi, you may go. Leave us."

Insanity

She was swallowed by it. All around her was fear, hate, anger, confusion and guilt. Ukue trembled as she tried to drink in the terrifying sights around her.

There was a cub. He was covered from elbows down in blood, his eyes empty black holes. He looked so alone...so forlorn as he watched another run away from the bloody corpse of a lion towards a green smudge far off.

A shriek made Ukue jump. A huge bird, its mane streaming, it's eye gored, took to the skies. With startling clarity, she knew what the monster was.

"D....Daddy?"

Ulaza (tan) and Ifazi (chocolate) are Ukue's youngest daughters. Ifazi was given charge of her brothers, Okotela and Yza, and their young cousin, Tambo, Thembai's last son.

The two argue about the worth of the males, with Ifazi throwing insults about her kin and their defections. Ulaza defends them to a fault, threatening to tell their parents what Ifazi has done, but Ifazi makes a clear and all to familiar threat:

"You don't want to turn your back on me, sister."

My 101st picture!!

My Abari and Ukue picture was my 100th. :) Thanks to my 80 fans and my good friends, Kimanda, BubbaSmith, and many others! All my gals at the dragcave.net fan club! Love you guys!

In honor of this event, I just doodled up a profile of realistic(ish) Ukue.

I think Abari and Ukue were meant to be, but not to last. They're good together, but Abari's life is cut short.
Drew this with a lovely MS Paint tutorial by an artist who's name escapes me. SO much fun!!

Remember Enzi? (The gold one on the right) He's baaaack.

And he plays a pretty big part in the last installment of Ukue's three part story. :3

Anyway. Basically Enzi is politely telling Abari he was a fool for not going after Ukue when he had the chance to, and that he should sieze the opportunity to get to know his children before it's too late.

Enzi is wise for such a considerably younger lion. LUCKY JELA.

Tried to be really realistic with this one, but with Cash that's harder to do since I didn't have a lot of lion references on hand. Oh well. I'm still pleased with the result. 8D

Ukue recounts the night that she lost all hope for a future to her brother, Thembai, now king of a small pride on the opposite side of the river that originates from the Pride Lands' watering hole. Thembai senses something more than just the loss of her cubs has affecter her, but she refuses to tell him until much, much later.

Poor things. :C

Jela: ....D:< SHUT UP.

Decided it needed a lil' sum'n-sum'n. 8D And to illustrate the similarities between Ukue and her father.

"Where to, Mother?"
"Somewhere you cannot follow, I'm afraid. But don't worry. It's my time. I've lived a long, fruitful life. Now I am ready to join my mother."
"Can't you stay a while longer?!"
"No, dears. My season is at it's end...oh... Oh, look, children. Fireflies are dancing."

Okotela was the only one who saw her leave. For a brief moment he could see. His mother was old, older than he'd imagined her being, and yet she stood as surely as if she were barely a couple of seasons old. Wind swirled about her, and she smiled up into the Heavens as if greeting an old friend.

Then, along with his sight, she was gone.

His name is pronounced either one of two ways: Ee-zah or Eye-sah. (Kind of like Issah in that last one)

Yza is the second male cub between Ukue and Cashille. He's naturally easy going by nature, friendly and polite. He lives an exceptionally long life with his brother, Okotela, ruling their lands beside him. Yza's also quite the lady's man.

I like him a lot because he looks so much like Sarabi. I used a reference pic of her while I was drawing him. I think Ukue will be very close to this boy because of this. C:

Kay so I changed up Okotela's story a bit. He's the first born between Ukue and Cashille. I changed his brithdate for some weird reason...anyway. Ukue waits a while to have cubs, seeing as Okotela is blind. It is understood between parents and son that he isn't fit to be king, but he'll always have a high stature in their pride due to his high intelligence and strength.

Okot's a sweet guy. I hope he finds a nice lioness. He's such a fun character!

Cash and Ukue cubs. :o

was thinking about genetic defects and how they might affect the children between a rare individual and a normal one. As you can see, for the most part, Ukue and Cash's cubs are healthy, aside from sight problems and future issues.

But then I realized that eventually the mental issues that have skipped Ukue's and Thembai's generation would be brought back into full swing with her cubs, thus this was made.

That first cub is my favorite. <33 And the last one is the first female I've created with brown eyes. O_o

That line art looks familiar because I've used it before. And it's referenced off of Simba Cub's Dsiney character sheet.

:o Oh-ehm-a-gee, it's Cashille. Or Cash as I call him.

dA Description:

When Ukue reaches her prime age (around seven to eight years), she meets an albino rogue lion named Cashille. He was bred and raised in captivity for 'canned hunts,' but escaped after animal rights protestors raided the camp he was being held in. Cashille is charming, wise, and a bit secretive. And that's all you get. :3

His name is a purposefully typoed version of this word:
Cashile: African Zulu name meaning "hidden; child of a concealed birth." He goes by Cash simply because it's easier for him/others to pronounce and it makes him seem a bit more friendly.

Ukue: Uh...what?
Yoni: You're coming into season soon. I know these things. I can smell it.
Ukue: ....and you're being a pile of beetle dung because...?
Yoni: Aww, don't be so resistent, Ukue-dear. You know it only makes me want you more.
Ukue: Who says you can have me?!
Yoni: I'm the prince. When my uncle dies I'm going to be king. I want you to be my queen.
Ukue: NO!
Yoni: You cannot deny me, Ukue, or the urges I know you will succumb to. I will have you.

Not the best match, is it? O_o

I was listening to the O Brother Where Art Thou sound track and this came up. Ukue relied on Abari for comfort when her first cub was brutally murdered by a starving lioness, and eventually, comfort turned into something else.

Ukue: Please tell me another story, brother!
Buzz: I will do as you ask, little princess.
Ukue: Must you do as I ask?
Buzz: Always. You are my future king's sister after all.
Ukue: But...we are really friends, aren't we, Buzzy?
Buzz: Of course, dearling cub! You will always be a part of my clan. Now, have I ever told you the tale about.....

No one knew where Buzz's talent came from. His clan wondered where he'd learned such thrilling stories, and when the lionesses caught snatches of them, they would swear his talent was almost greater than even Rafiki's. When asked about where his skill came from, the young patriarch would smile and say, 'The princess is my inspiration.'

Enzi: I'll never forget this day....
Ukue: I pray you won't forget what led to it, dearlings. Always remember the struggle and the pain that led up to this beautiful new dawn. This place has seen many shadows...and now...looking up at them, I can see much light will be shed across these lands.
Jela: Will you tell them the truth, then?
Ukue: .....yes. Now is the best time, after all. He's seen so much darkness and bloodshed in his short life. I must let him know not all of it was in vain.
Enzi: You're brave to do this thing, Aunt Ukue.
Ukue: Brave? Well...I've been called other things for not seeking my own son out. But I'll take what I can get. Thank you, young prince.

They also serve as story tellers, and are all but rogues with a pride who willingly accepts them as one of their own.

An updated version of the old Thembai worksheet with the psuedo-realistic twist. Here you might see some references to a few canon characters, but it's up to you to figure out who they are, if you can't remember who they are. ;)

After the events of Simba's Pride, Ukue left Pride Rock with her niece, her niece's fiance, and her daughter to rejoin Thembai and his pride. For a short time, they knew only anxiety and content, awaiting the arrival of Jela's(Ukue's niece) first child.

On the day that child is born, they recieve an unexpected visitor.....

This is the last chapter in Ukue's story. :'C I know I should start from...well, the beginning, but meh. I'm too lazy.

N'Gada is the mate of Ilunga, which would make her Abari and Yoni's mother and the grandmother of Kovu and Vitani. I think she looks like a crossbreed of Vitani and Scar...which is weird.

I looked at the 'Simba Ruff Model' sketch sheet for reference on how rounded a TLK cub's facial expressions should be. Like I've said before, drawing characters that look similar to canon is HARD. D:

Yanga is the love-child of Enzi and Jela. She is Zira's grand daughter, though by the time she is born, Zira is dead. D: Which, in the cub's case, is probably a good thing. She is the chosen heir to the throne after her parents pass on, and her betrothed 'prince consort' is Chaka. (Simba may not like it, but that's ok...he loosens up as he ages....eventually.) I love Yanga's eeeyyyyyes.

Abari is a fan character I made months ago. This is his first colored appearance anywhere. Distantly, he is an adoptive cousin to Bkali, who is my version of Sarafina's mother. Abari is the father of Ukue's first litter of cubs, Chputsua and two others...C:

Ukue adored her father. But the Great Kings of the Past would not have the child be a victim of her father's deciet. Yet not even all the stars in the sky could, in the future, fill up the hole in her heart left by King Scar.
