9. Now to color line art! If you like black lineart then skip this. If you want to color it, then what you do is go to the 'shadows' layer and click the little bitmap icon to lock the layer. The icon looks like a little black and white checker board. Then grad the paintbrush and get a darker color than the other. If you are doing the main color, get the darker of it. If you are coloring lines by another color, dark it to match that. Don't color the lineart all the same color. Match it with its colors it holds. I usually don't color the lines on the hair but if ya want to you can.

7. Now. Hair has highlights. We're going to take the dodge tool and go to the 'mane/tail' layer, NOT the 'HairDetail' layer!!! Add in some squiggly highlights in their hair. Add as much as you want until you are pleased. If it is a dark color then it will take a lot of dodging but it's worth it. After you add that, we add shadows. Add a new layer and call it 'shadows' Take a size 3 or 4 brush(mine is 3) and choose black. Again, trust me and make it black. I'll show you how to change it when we're done. So choose where the light is coming from, and shadow. When you're done, you should have a pic with icky black shadowing. I'll upload an example pic in the next slide.

6. Hair time! For the hair, take a thin brush and set it to size 1. Make sure you make a new later! I called mine 'hair detail' so that I wont get it mixed up with the other hair layer. Get a darker color for the hair strokes. Don't just stroke straight up and down or left and right. Follow the direction of the hair. *notice the arrows* Flow with it.

5. Now for the eyes! Zoom in! Get your base color and color it in. Next, color in the main eye color and add a pupil.I make mine small dots. Next, add a white shine at the top of the eye. Simple right? Now here's the part that needs a little work. Get a slightly darker color. (My eye color is green so I used dark green) outline the outside of the main eye color with a small size brush. I used size 1. Keep that color in your colors you use. Now take the dodge tool and start dodging the main eye color. The bottom of the eye should be the brightest, the sides slightly brighter, and the top to the white spot should be barely lightened. Now use that dark color and make small lines going down across the eye. Zoom out and there ya go!

4. Ok, so you have one color all over. Next, add a new layer and put one color on that layer. See my 'mane/tail' layer? It has the color of his mane and tail on it and that's it! The pony tail color is on there also cause its part of the mane. Then, a new layer which I named 'hairband', has the hairband color only! You need a layer for every color. I showed you what color was on the '2nd' layer and what color was on the '3rd' layer. The 'nose/ear' layer has the nose color and ear color.

3. Now you have pretty lineart! Since that's done, click the eyeball by the sketch layer to make it invisible. With it invisible, you can work with your pic without it being in the way. That way, if you ever need it for a guide or help, you can just make it visible again. If you feel confedent enough, you can just delete it. You will delete it anyways when the pic is done. Add a new layer and call it 'main' for the main whole body color. Color the whole character with that one color, even in spots that it doesn't belong. Make sure the 'main' layer is between 'lineart' and 'sketch'. If you deleted your sketch layer, just make sure the 'main' layer is under lineart.

2. Now...on the sketch layer, go up and lower the opacity so that it looks lighter but you can still see it. I put it to 67 percent. Then add a new layer and name it 'Lineart' and leave it on top of the sketch layer. Get your paintbrush and choose the smallest brush and put its size as 1. Zoom in around 7 or 800 percent and start lining. Line in black. If you like your lines colored, line in black anyways. I'll show you how to change it later.

1. Imma do a tutorial on how I color just cause I wnat to :3 This is photoshop, but it sjould work in other programs too.
1st, have out your sketch or scanned in pic. Name that layer 'Sketch'. Then create a new layer and name it 'White'. Take the paint bucket and color the white layer white and put it under the sketch layer.

Remember! This is just the way I make a pic. There is no right or wrong way and I'm not saying this is exactly how it's done with everyone. It's just how I do it.
