(continuing from my last pic) If Kovu is older than Kiara that begs the question...what might he have looked like at Kiara's age in the movie-canon model? Answer: maybe like cub Simba.

TLK movie cubs have no hairtuft and round cheeks (we have 3 examples of this). Stands to reason that male cubs wouldn't magically *poof* in hairtufts at a certain age...they would get fluffier and the extra fluff would eventually be mane.

Plus, Kovu has disappearing ear rim color. It's slim when he's a "cub" and gone when "adult". So if the Simba male model holds true he would have full ear rims when younger. Also no nose bridge color.

Please note this is MOVIE canon. Comic cubs, book cubs, TLK6NA cubs are not accounted for with this model.

I've been looking at design development of TLK male lions from cub to adult...specifically the movie canon.

Kovu should be older than Kiara. He was "hand-picked by Scar" which implies that he was born during TLK. There's a cut SP scene where Kiara's birth is reported to Zira, who's been admonishing Kovu (old enough to talk).

It's hard to get a ref for how old "cub" Kovu actually is...but then TLK 1 1/2 comes out. Suddenly we have a Simba who has:

1. Head tuft
2. "Slim" ear rims
3. Fluffy cheeks (not round)
4. Nose bridge color

The exact same characteristics as SP "cub" Kovu, though Simba is larger/tall. I've come to the conclusion that the SP "cub" Kovu we see is actually closer in age to TLK 1 1/2 Simba than to cub Kiara.

Spazzeh told me to draw Kovu as an African Clawless Otter in Sketcher, so I attempted to do so. This is supposed to be a recreation of the scene in SP where Kiara is attempting to "hunt" Kovu...he is not impressed.

I guess he's upset because after a while of working on a canon project I inevitably draw silly illogical things in Sketcher. Like Simba-zebra hybrids. XD Ah, well.

Kovu cried for help, but no one was there to hear. "Who are you? Why are you doing this!?" he screamed.

The scarred young lion snarled, eyes flashing with hate. "Eye for an eye, scar for a scar," he rasped. "Tell your mother that from me. If you live."

Kovu watched in terror as Kopa swept back his paw for the first strike.

An attack at the birthing grounds, once safe from hyenas & danger, had left most of the helpless babies to be captured or killed. There was no choice but to flee. Now the survivors were weak, & though leading the intruders to their last fortress could be fatal, there was no other option for the remaining cubs.

But the Pride Rock they returned to was changed. A new monarch rallied his forces, prepared to fight. It seemed war was imminent--but something at the base of Pride Rock drew the intruders away. They went about their business, looked once more at the powerful lion and his pride, and left. The pelt of a male lion was priceless in the markets of Greece.

Refs. A bit different.

I haven't done one of these yet so I did it for fun. Characters drawn in Sketcher (ref used for Kovu). Kiara's mane is not supposed to be exactly like Simba's; it's slightly based off of another Disney character's hair. Kovu is meant to be in the foreground (hence why "she" is bigger) though I think I failed at that. Ah well. I do kind of like this.

TLK Facial Silhouette Challenge!

I was working on a pic and thought this might be fun. Think you know your LK movies?

The 13 lion profiles here are adult lions who appeared in TLK and SP. All of these characters have been officially named by Disney (no "unique outlanders" etc). Two characters are duplicated (you should know why! Name their movie too) and males have had their manes removed to make it interesting. The silhouettes were reffed from screenshots or model sheets to be as accurate as possible.

The answer picture will be posted soon. I won't say who's right or not till then. To up the stakes a bit, first person to correctly name all 13 silhouettes will get a canon or semi-canon request from me. :D Good luck guessing!

What would Kiara look like if her features resembled her mother's?

Here's a comparison. Nala's facial structure looks much more elegant (this is TLK Nala, not SP). Perhaps Kiara would look more like this as she got older...

Welcome to TLK Cubbie Care!

Site contest entry. I really rushed this and I think it shows. But I did finish it! Take a look at all the cute entries!

Anyway, Rafiki is holding a daycare for the youngsters of the Pridelands, most of whom you should know. The three lionesses on the left appeared in Simba's Pride, and yes, they are telepathic. Telepathic clones. XD If the baby hyenas look familiar, it's because I based the designs off of Audrey Cosmo's utter cuteness (mine aren't nearly so cute), check out her comic. ;)

And keep cubbie Zira away from the fingerpaints!

So Majordomo and I decided to collab the two outcasts of Zazu's family, and we gave them names, as you can see. Then Zyrael contributed another family member (who perhaps doesn't ruin special occasions like the other two, but is certainly...different). ;)

Say hello to: Alternative Andre, Deadbeat Dave, and Jailbird Jax. XD

We have found the two black sheep of Zazu's family and they live on Sketcher. XD It all started when Spazzeh glitched a line over my completed Zazu. Since I'd already saved it, I gave everyone permission to doodle on it. And I sort of played a bit myself... Majordomo added the other, apathetic hornbill with the mullet. XD

Zazu faces off with...himself. Muahahaha. XD

Basically just a redo of a pic from the last Bonanza, buffing it up and shining it up a bit. Zazu's design was based off of a Red-billed Hornbill, which is actually more of a sooty color that sometimes seems to have a blue-ish tint.

Ev'rybody wants to be... a Disney cat!

Yay! Contest entry for "Tribute to Disney", about lionizing Disney characters. I lionized every animated Disney cat I could think of (excluding big cats like tigers, etc). I think a sneaky canon character got in there as well... I was originally just going to do the Aristocats but I kept on going!

The 1st person to identify every character by name & movie (4 are obscure, just tell me the movie) gets a request. EDIT: Congrats to jwalraven & Aisha who tied! See comments for the full list of characters.

XD ...I just KNEW that the Mad Libs brainstorming would turn ugly one day. GUiNNESS_da_lion gave me this winning combination: {Red, Dance, Zazu}, and she also randomly mentioned hats. And you know my sleep-deprived brain.

Anyway, I'm not sure if the red hornbill is some relative of Zazu's or his alter ego, his inner fun-loving self. I kind of like that second thought...

Edit: I suppose my wacky brain confused who input which data. XD Turns out Cat B. gave me the combination, but Guinness did say "hat" at some point. Thanks for the correction, Guin!

It's Nala as an albino! :)

Obviously a modification of the picture for Nala15. This is because I drew that on Sketcher. Shortly after it was saved, someone accidentally deleted the Color Layer and Nala was suddenly color-less! So I changed it up a bit and this was the result.

Who lives in a snail pride under the sea?
SnailBob SimbaPants!

Created for the site contest on drawing TLK characters in a different cartoon's style.

Simba and friends are drawn in the style of the Nickelodeon cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants", about creatures living on the ocean floor. The snail is the equivalent of the cat down there, so it's Simba and Nala-Snail! A squirrel lives underwater there, so I figure, why can't a meerkat? And I bet you can't guess who the jellyfish is...

Hehehe...hope you enjoy this pic as much as I did while drawing it!

Entry for "Back in Time" contest, which I don't think some people who entered get. It's a scene from a TLK movie except with the characters being cubs. Not some invented scene. Has to be a CANON scene.

So, here's my entry that takes place right after the opening sequence, when Mufasa goes to Scar to ask why he wasn't there. After a brief exchange where Scar almost digests Zazu.

"Why, if it isn't my big brother descending from on high to mingle with the commoners!"
