The Pridelands, as barren as they had become, would still be prime territory for any male lion. As the brutal king aged, rogues considered takeovers from time to time. But Scar wasn't to be had so easily...he sent his young, powerful enforcer to deal with them.

Zira chased the hyenas away from Scar's body...but it was too late. She bent over him, nuzzled him, mourning the loss of her beloved king as the fires slowly flickered and died around Pride Rock.

Sketcher/Photoshop, going for a screenshot-like effect (bg was referenced). Supposed to be a parallel to Mufasa's death at the gorge, and in that tradition the only mark on Scar is his bent whiskers. No bloody gore in a G-rated movie, kids... ;)

Simba's mind was troubled with thoughts of what he would find when he reached his childhood home, but one glance over at his brother, matching him stride for stride, banished all doubt from his mind. They would reclaim their pride. Together.

Request for jwalraven for correctly naming all the characters in my Disney cat lionization. Asadi (the other lion in this pic) is her OC. He's a littermate of Simba's who accompanies him through all his adventures -- guess Asadi's just a touch camera shy. ;)

(I chose the run through the desert because I desperately need to practice my running poses. Stupid Disney lion paws; they morph like Silly Putty when they're in motion! XP )

Sarabi was no fool. Three royal-blooded lions had gone into the gorge, and only one came out alive. She supported Scar in order to keep the pride together: the only family that remained to her. But she knew. And every time she brought down prey, she imagined that it was his flesh that was slashed and torn, his blood that spattered the ground, his life that drained slowly from the body clenched in her jaws... Because she knew.

"It's not a pride, it's a coalition. And it wasn't just me who decided to let you in, twerp. We decide things together. So don't go acting all Prince of the Pridelands on us now 'cause we'll send you back home to daddy."

Adolescent Mheetu runs away from the Pridelands to escape Scar, and finds Chumvi, who has teamed up with a couple of other rogues to form a males' coalition (yes, that is Ni up there).

Real media - Crayola markers. I liked the colors I could get by combining them, however Mheetu has a Nala-ish color scheme b/c there was no off-white in the box.

EDIT: Going into the contest while I work on a new pic to enter.

While Simba was being his lone-lion self in the jungle during TLK 1 1/2, the rest of the cubs were going through adolescence too. And that's when the guys figured out that girls don't have cooties after all...

Chumvi watched as the newborn inspected his paw. "I don't understand why Scar hasn't named Nuka his heir yet," he said to Zira.

"Nuka can never be heir," growled Zira softly.

"But he's Scar's son, isn't he? What's wrong with him?"

Zira gazed at Nuka. "Scar and I didn't know until I was already pregnant, but we have the same father. He's my half-brother."

"Brother?" Chumvi cringed at the thought. "That's like...if I and Kula..."

"There's too much a risk of something wrong with him since Scar and I are closely related. Scar will never choose Nuka; he wants a healthy male cub to succeed him. That will be his own offspring, or perhaps a cub of mine, but not one from us both."

Scar had hoped to make minions out of the cubs of the pride, but some weren't so compliant. Those were usually done away with without too much of a fuss.

However, one male wasn't so easily removed. Predatory eagles shadowed him night and day, vigilant and wary of any danger to their leonine leader. Scar had been lucky to kill some of the birds early on, but the remaining three had become even more alert, and Scar walked under their suspicious and accusing gazes every time he approached the younger lion.

When food became scarce, Scar accused him of stealing rations to feed the raptors, and called for his exile. Tojo did not argue. He was old enough to survive now, and there was nothing in the barren Pridelands to keep him there.

Adolescent Simba goes to chase an intruder out of the jungle but gets more than he bargained for. How do you respond when you're confronted with the stark reality of the life you are living?

Drawn wholly in Sketcher. Putting it into the current contest as a placeholder...I have a different entry that I'm working on, and I'll put it in instead if I finish in time.

My entry! It's really late, so I don't think it will do so well in the vote department, but I am SO proud of this! I suck at real animation, so this is more a storyboard-movie. I drew over 50 individual frames for it.

EDIT: Wow, thanks to the voters who got this to #4 (tied with #3)!! Fantabulous people, you!

This is reverse of what I consider my own canon (Kopa died and Mheetu lived) and has timeline variations. Plenty of reference and familiar locations used because I looked for the feel of a Disney short film. I wanted to explore connections between Mheetu and Kopa. Some inspiration from the book Lost Boys by Orson Scott Card as well.

I felt so sorry for what I did to Nala in my last picture so I had to make it up to her. :) I was watching Titanic on TV tonight and I thought of Half-Tail's Ni/Nala theory, so I drew the two of them together in Sketcher. This ship doesn't exist except as a crush in my version of canon, but it was still fun to draw. ^^

I don't know why I felt I had to draw this picture... I personally know someone who found herself in this situation, and it profoundly affected her sense of being and screwed up her life so that she still has issues today. She's told me that she feels responsible somewhat for the actual confrontation, and from what I know that shouldn't be the case. I don't understand it, and I hope that I will never experience this firsthand myself, but I thought...I *need* to understand. For her sake. This was drawn for her, I think.

Yes, my contest entry is coming. I really really like it. Muahaha. It's like 4am and my brain is broken.

My character Radhi meets Malka, a character from a LK comic.

A little backstory: Radhi's mother hooked up with Scar, and when she found out she was pregnant she fled the pride in fear of what Mufasa might do to her unborn cub. Radhi is born in Malka's pride, a little before both Malka and Simba were born. He and Malka grew up together as best friends.

I want to use him in my alterno-canon, but I'm not sure where exactly yet. I'm considering him a son of Kovu and Kiara, I think. Nameless so far.

Update: he is now Kovu's uncle on his father's side, named Tau.

"Hello, Nala. Pretty as ever, I see."
"You shouldn't be here. If the hyenas see you..."
"Relax. I just came by to check up on you and the old pride--the food supply isn't very good. Your father's saying us guys should leave the area...why don't you come with us? Or Kula? We could use some company..."

Young Chumvi sneaks into the Pridelands to try and convince some lionesses to join him and a group of other male lions who fled at the beginning of Scar's reign. (Chumvi is a cubhood friend of Nala's from TLK6NA.)

UPDATE: Since I imagine this as an awkward moment for Nala, I'm putting it in the site contest. :)

The hyenas corner a rogue lion passing through the pridelands. Scar tells his hyena leader to offer him a deal: a position as Scar's commander, to keep the lionesses in line. The stranger accepts, giving his name as Tayu. Little does he know that one day he will be betrayed and murdered by Scar, but not before having fathered a tiny litter of cubs.

Did this in a rough, sketchy style because I felt like it.

"I've been to the area several times."
"Have you ever been to the pride that lives at the big rock? I have a friend there, the prince, Simba. About my age. Have you met him?"
"I'm afraid not. I've been to the pride, but the only ruler was a dark king named Scar. The hunting there is wearing thin, herds moving on; the entire pride is suffering. Apparently hyenas are all over the place. If there was once a prince, no one spoke of him. I'm sorry."

The rogue lion Ni meets the teenage Malka, Simba's friend from a neighboring pride, telling him of the sad situation at Pride Rock. (Both are canon characters: Ni from TLK6NA and Malka from a comic.)
