Sorry I haven't been around and uploading...it's midterms time at my university and these last couple of weeks have been insane. It looks like the next one's going to be busy for me too, so I won't be uploading much. :(

Before the craziness started I was thinking of an entry for the cosplay contest, and since it's over I thought to show one of my sketches. I might finish this picture sometime because I do like the concept.

I'm not into the culture myself; I don't read comics or watch anime, etc. But I did find this intriguing example: MusicalCosplay So I would've had the characters cosplaying the TLK musical (not as themselves, of course). Here are 5 of them, I had concepts for more as well. Maybe someday...

You know me, I love my projects. But this one is pretty rough.

On TLKCAA there are 6 map images I've been trying to decipher. I assembled 5 as a composite by using one (the top inset on the lower right) as a guide layer, b/c it has a compass. The lower inset might be another general map.

But so much on this is hard to make out. Although I have found Rafiki's tree and the waterhole, I'm not sure what "Simba's Secret Place" means (the jungle?) and I don't even know if Pride Rock is on here. It should face eastish, but this may be pre-Pride Rock for all I know. It doesn't help that this map is oriented "upside-down". I can't read some labels.

Anyone want to guess at the labels/landmarks? Have a better concept map? Help? XD

Well if you haven't heard by now, I'm sure you'll know soon: I got Artist of the Month! :D

And I wanted to do something different for one of my pictures that will be featured there--Majordomo suggested an improvement picture and I wanted to take that a step further. This is EVERY SINGLE SIMBA that I've ever uploaded (cub Simba, that is), from July of 2006 on the left to the current month on the right.

I wanted to upload this not only to remind me of how far I've come since I got here but to show people wanting to become AotM that everyone starts out with art that's not so great, but you can only go up from there. :) So look for me on the main page!!

So I am now "liquidating" my 2007 sketchbook, meaning I am going to upload the best and least random of my sketches here so I can hide/bury/burn/feed to my dog the original papers. Because I seriously have too much crap. XD

I was doodling in class yesterday and I just had the urge to lionize this guy I know. He's a very analytical, clever person with a sort of dry wittiness, but the real reason I wanted to lionize him was because of how he looks. He is very tall and skinny, sort of lanky, with ginger-orange curly hair that he wears in a semi-Afro. Really stands out in a crowd! And I thought it would be fun to make a design for him.

WIP sketch of Mufasa facing down a cheetah. Don't have a story behind it yet, but it's inspired by a show I saw on Animal Planet (yah, I watch that WAY too much) where lions stole a kill from a cheetah by brute strength. Yeesh.

This is the start of a new series inspired by real animals. I live five minutes from an animal rescue called Cat Tales Zoological Park, which mostly takes in large cats. It has the distinction of having its Zoological Training Center, the only kind of its type in all of North America. Visit http://www.cattales.org/ to learn more (be warned, the site needs updating).

Anyway, I was inspired to start this series because of the arrival of four new Siberian tigers to Cat Tales. This is Delilah, an 8-year-old who was rescued along with her mate Samson and their pair of 2-year-old cubs, Romeo and Juliet. They were being kept as pets.

Tried my sketchy-style again on this pic--I think it works alright for this semi-realistic kind of pic.

So I'm going to upload some random sketches I have lying around. These are the ones I will never finish anyway because I don't like them. Bleh.

So anyway, this was supposed to be Simba and Ni meeting as adults. Great concept, poor execution. It was done without any reference, and as a result, it could just as well be two random lions as neither looks anything like he's supposed to. So this version is not going to get finished.

(And yes, I did add the coloring digitally. Sketches are more fun in color.)

I just watched a documentary on a pride of lions that lives in the Okavango Delta through flood season called "Swamp Cats". The focus was on this one cutie named Fulani, a little girl cub growing up in the swampy region. And I just had to draw a pic of her!

Up here in the Pacific Northwest US, the cougar population is growing. Sadly, it's growing too fast for their native prey, elk and deer. As a result, Oregon has to trap and kill at least thirty cougars this season. Tragic, but some say it's humane compared to starvation after they deplete the elk herds.

This is just me playing around with the filters on Photoshop... I'm a big fan of purple, and added a big neon glow effect to make this a sort of ghost-lion thing.
