Even more old art in a fairly obscure medium -- papercutting!

Every piece of paper in these pieces was cut with scissors, with no plans or outlines drawn before hand, which explains why they look the way they do. As I recall, I didn't have any light brown paper for Scar's belly, so I rubbed Wite-Out on brown paper to make it the right shade.

And now, to ring in the new year, some horrifically old TLK fanart from '94-'95!

Here's a marker-and-crayon drawing of nearly the entire cast (for some reason, I almost always made Sarabi look like Sarafina) and a section of a painting I did with watercolors.

Sad Kipofu. I don’t think I’ve ever been more satisfied with such a tiny, simple drawing. Why am I satisfied with it? Well, not only does it express the emotions I wanted to convey, but Kipofu’s paws are covering his face, and the feline face has always been a problem for me (no “problem” with this sketch!).

Another old drawing of cub Rinden and Stuart, who were close friends in their youth, but were torn apart by circumstances and separated for some time, and when they finally met again years later, they realized that…

…they were still friends. (Hey, a lion and a cheetah being pals already crosses the line of Normality. You use an age-old cliché in a situation like that!)

A pretty good sketch, considering its age: All three generations of Rinden’s family. L to R: Khan, Rinden, Surina, Sarala, Jacko (Xandra is lying down). This way before Sarala’s parents existed.

Note: Xandra doesn’t have exposed claws like the others in the pic. This was a mistake, but apparently, cheetahs <i>can</i> retract their claws when they’re very young. Guess I got lucky.

I decided to scan a bunch very old, not very pleasant drawings from one of my ancient sketchbooks, and u/l them here for all to behold. Here’s some Five Fingers sketches, along with some humorous accompanying captions:

Kat: Obi, I am madly in love with you, and I’m also your sister. Is that bad?

Stellia: Looks like I’ve got Kishi hooked.

Shungi: Wow, what’s this thing on my head?

Probably my earliest full-body, color sketch of Xandra. I used some weird, unidentifiable, almost metallic black pencils to color her tear mark, pupil, ears and tail rings, which explains why they are lighter than her nose.

Tanabi gives Kiara a hunting lesson. As you can see, the scar on Kovu's eye has healed, and his mane looks....really, really unusual.

Aaawwww! Taka looks so sad...an early colored pencil sketch of the lion, with which I was quite pleased with at the time (notice his claws are in. He looks gentler without them).

The first complete color drawing of Tanabi. Since his creation, he has gotten fuller-maned, a redder hair color, and modified ear color (ever since I realized he had "ear rings.") The only thing that hasn't really changed are his "mane-locks."
